I’d like to introduce Krystallina Paramithi from Crystal Fairytale Events.
What was the ‘Aaahaaa’ moment when you decided to go Vegan?
I was 16. A beloved friend of mine talked to me about animal rights. It was the first time someone ever told me that we are extremely cruel to animals and that we have no right to use them or take away their lives. It all made sense to me, so I did my first attempt to go vegan. I only managed to be 100% vegan when I became a mother to my beautiful son, though.
When did you embrace a compassionate Vegan lifestyle?
On April 2012.
What were the reactions of family and friends when you first embraced Veganism?
Half of them thought that I was crazy. The rest of them thought that I was going to starve myself to death.
Why did you start your business?
I started Crystal Fairytale Events because I needed to be able to express myself through my job and offer eco friendly and cruelty free options in an industry that produces big amounts of waste.
What problem are you trying to solve? (Or – what’s wrong with the status quo?)
I’m trying to make people understand that my products and services are not expensive. They pay high quality services and products that are unique, environmentally friendly and not made by tortured human and non human animals. By choosing my services and products they don’t pay for something unreasonably expensive. They make an ethical choice against poor quality products that harm the environment and other beings.
What’s your point of differentiation over your competitors?
My cakes, desserts and food are mostly organic, fairtrade and made to perfection! Also, I am the only vegan event planner in Greece. Nobody can guide you to a beautiful vegan party, but me. So if you’re planning to get married in Greece you have to contact me!
What’s the reaction to your product/service been like?
OMG! Is this really vegan??
What is your most popular feature/product/service and why?
My most popular products are my cakes. That’s because in Greece many bakeries and pastry shops claim that they make vegan desserts but in the end you find out that they have used animal products such as cream with cow’s milk or margarine with animal derived vitamin D. The most annoying thing is most of them also do not care about providing us with 100% vegan cakes. So my clients really do appreciate the fact that I am a vegan that has done all the research and that I would never use animal products cause I care!
Tell me about your journey to get to this point, what have you done?
I’ve worked in several event planning agencies since I was 17. I decided to create my own business so I could provide animal & eco friendly services. In the event planning industry lots of waste is being produced. In Crystal Fairytale Events we recycle, we only cook vegan, we use only vegan products, we avoid plastic and we try to use eco friendly biodegradable materials when possible.
What mistakes have you made?
Well, I pretty much taught myself event design & planning and also cooking vegan, so it was all trial and error.
What have you learned, and what would you differently next time?
I’ve learned that hard work pays off but I wouldn’t have been so harsh on myself next time.
What advice would you give to people thinking of entering this area?
I would tell them to check out if they are really into it. In this job you have to stay awake at night many nights, spend lots of time creating beautiful things that may cause your body to collapse. After an event 99% of the times, you are not enjoying your cocktail while watching your event being perfect and all, but you want to go to bed and stay there for 3 days.
What type of customers do you attract?
I attract creative people who want I fresh and unique concept for their event. I attract vegans and non vegans who want a healthier option and/or eco friendly for their wedding or party.
What features/expansion are you planning in the next 12 months?
Well lots actually! I work on Vegan Life Festival with a great team. It’s the first vegan festival in Greece. The first one on 2016 was a huge success, so now it’s getting bigger. On 2017 we are planning to make it happen in two cities, Athens & Thessaloniki.
About my business I’m planning something great, but I can’t say more yet!
How did you get started online and what technical challenges did you have to overcome?
About 3 years ago. I have been through several challenges that were not really hard to overcome.
What did you want to be when you grow up?
What do you do for fun?
I’m lucky enough to have a job which is also my entertainment, my meditation, my inspiration and everything! Which is great because I raise my son alone, so not much free time for me.
How do you spread your message about veganism?
I am one of the producers of Vegan Life Festival in Greece. I have a Facebook group where we help parents raise healthy, happy little vegans. Through my job I’m trying to make people understand that vegans are not deprived, but they can celebrate exactly as every one else does. I’m trying to be as active as I can in my community.
How do you think the Internet and Social Media has impacted on the Vegan World?
It has made all the difference. Now anyone can find the inspiration and information to go and stay vegan.
